Kingston's 2nd birthday, new candids, new Gavin interview

> Thanks to Carly, a new Gavin interview from The Daily Record:

ROCKER Gavin Rossdale thinks Gwen Stefani is the perfect wife because she transforms herself into four dream women every week. The former Bush frontman says Gwen’s stunning image changes keeps their relationship fresh.
And as he relaxed at their home in Los Angeles, Gavin, 40, told me he is convinced his marriage to Hollaback Girl star Gwen will last a lifetime despite the 80 per cent divorce rate in the City of Angels.
Gavin said: “The churches should have revolving doors. Even my family have all been married three times each. So I always thought, if I was going to get married, I wouldn’t mind if I could hack it with someone I really like.
“We enjoy spending time together and Gwen always looks so great. It’s like four different women a week coming out of the dressing room. It is fantastic.”
Gavin, a Londoner whose middle name is McGregor, also revealed the couple have painted their nursery black, ready for the birth of their second child, who will be a little brother or sister to toddler Kingston. Despite reports to the contrary, Gavin insisted: “We don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl. We’re into the surprise element. Plus we are going to put him in a black room.
“He’ll be a goth baby so it doesn’t matter if it is a girl or a boy. Gwen is doing fantastic. She had a bit of arough start to the pregnancy but is doing great now.”
Having attended the birth of Kingston, Gavin says he wouldn’t dare miss out this time.
“Whatever I can do to help, I’ll do, but the guys get off light,” he said. “We get to have the fun, then nip off, and the girls have to carry the physical burden of making a human, which is phenomenal.
“It’s more than my life’s worth to miss the births of my children. I’d be dodging plates, and frying pans would be flying past my head. I want to be around and supportive and helpful. The first birth was so overwhelming.
“Every day, I am more crazy about Kingston. He’ll do something and all over again I can’t believe how magic he is. This time, I feel a lot more confident. First time around, I hadn’t even held a baby for more than three minutes prior to Kingston being born. I didn’t even know how to burp him.
“When Kingston was born, the World Cup and Wimbledon were on and, because I was in LA, the matches were at five in the morning. So I could wake up and tell Gwen I would take him and that she should get some rest. Then I could sit with him and watch some matches. It was the most thoughtful birth ever.”
Meanwhile, Gavin admits he is still coming to terms with the revelation that he is the father of 19-year-old It girl Daisy Lowe. The rocker had a fling with former Powder singer turned fashion designer Pearl Lowe, while she was living with traveller Bronner Handwerger. Daisy, who recently replaced Kate Moss as the face of Agent Provocateur lingerie and who is dating Mark Ronson, thought Bronner was her dad until 2004.
It was around that time that reformed drug addict Pearl, who led a hedonistic lifestyle and hung out with Kate Moss, Sadie Frost and Patsy Kensit, demanded Gavin take a DNA paternity test, which proved positive. In her memoirs, All That Glitters, Pearl, who has three kids to Supergrass rocker Danny Goffey, accused Gavin of trying to dodge the test. But he won’t criticise Pearl and insists he wants to build a relationship with Daisy, who had thought he was her godfather.
“It’s not easy,” he replied when I asked if he was coming to terms with the very public outing as Daisy’s dad. “It’s one of those things,” he said. “It’s life. I had to deal with it, which was unfortunate for Gwen and I because we are private people.
“I didn’t want to run and hide. Someone has to take the high ground, not be so attention-grabbing about it and just wait for it all to calm down. But I suppose Pearl and I are polar opposites.
“The relationship with Daisy will be there. It will be lovely when it’s not so career-oriented. It’s not private, but it should be an incredibly private thing between the people involved, yet it gets commented on every day of my life. I am the private guy in all this, but Daisy is an incredibly smart and beautiful girl. Things will work themselves out.”
Gavin, who has a Scottish mum and English dad, says his turbulent private life has given him much-needed ammunition for his first solo album. He hopes it will be his most successful record since the mid-Nineties when Bush became the biggest British band in the US. Their 1994 album Sixteen Stone sold 10 million copies there. But the band split in 2002 and Gavin’s subsequent band, Institute, released one album which flopped. He compares that period to David Bowie’s unpopular spell with Tin Machine.
Now he is back with the album Wanderlust, out mid-June. Gavin said: “The reaction to it is pretty phenomenal, so I am blown away. After Institute, I removed all expectations and thought, ‘Let’s go down in flames.’ “I had this incredible career with Bush, then formed Institute and made this really heavy record to get it out of my system.
“Then I thought, ‘Who took the girls away? I want the girls.’ So I decided to make a record that could be played any time of the day. “Having children, you just want to be good for them and inspiring. I think Kingston may even enjoy Institute.”
Recording his new album with producer Bob Rock on the Hawaiian island of Maui also gave him a brief holiday from changing Kingston’s nappies and playing house husband.
“It made me want to get home quicker from the studio and other times it made me want to run to the studio,” he said. “I felt defiant. I have always tried to do my best and connect with what I am thinking and feeling.
“I’ve always tried to be personal. There are some incredibly vulnerable moments and songs throughout my career. Sometimes I had a big blustery sound but it was usually self-obsessive. I’ve always tried to be the real me.”

Gavin Rossdale is a Wanderlust-ing Man
Gavin Rossdale, aka Mr. Gwen Stefani, is releasing his first solo album, WANDERlust, in stores June 3rd. Here’s a track-by-track description of each of his 13 songs as told by Mr. Rossdale himself (click the link to read entire article):

FOREVER MAY YOU RUN: I didn’t have a studio at the time so I called up Linda Perry who Gwen had worked with and I think is just great. I had never co-written anything but I wanted to start with Linda. We began this song, and since I don’t play piano, I asked her if she would. I started singing this bit and she put a nice change in. Then Linda sent me home saying she had my vibe and would try to write something. I went home and I wrote this song that I wanted to have a little of that universal feeling of “Everybody Hurts” Linda played me what she had done, and I played her what I’d done. And she said let’s do yours. Jimmy Iovine’s daughter Jade heard this one and got her father excited about that song. That was the song that green-lit this record.
DRIVE: I’m guilty of writing about some of the same themes over and over. I’m one for owning up to life’s struggle — even the Buddhists say, “Life is suffering.” Coming to LA to be with Gwen was great, but the move was somewhat isolating because all my friends were in London. And I didn’t want to come here and just lean on the person I love. So that move was intense. Marriage itself is intense. I wrote this song and I couldn’t call it “Landslide” because Stevie Nicks had gotten there first with one of my favorite songs. But that word still fit. Hope Stevie doesn’t mind.
LOVE REMAINS THE SAME: I really wanted to write my drinking song — my drowning of the sorrows song. I have a tough wife with high standards so there are those times when there is a disconnect. It’s hard to be with anybody for any length of time, and there are those times when you realize we need to make an effort here. I’m not really a drinking man, but I can imagine. It does have a certain Bukowski ness to it. I didn’t want to hide behind anything.
THIS IS HAPPINESS: There was a particular week when that I went with Gwen to New York. It was one of those times when parking space after parking space, everything fit in perfectly. Something about it was so magical, and when I wrote this album I wanted to make sure I had some of those up moments. I have such a deep love for New York — probably my favorite city in the world. I quite like that middle eight, “You make me so much better/I hope I don’t make you worse.” Bob loved it so much he said we should have it twice. And Chris’s guitar solo is fantastic.
THIS PLACE IS ON FIRE: That was the working title for the record. I have a studio upstairs in my house and Gwen was downstairs with her design team. The clothes were looking amazing and she had the artwork for her album out and I was upstairs with this huge Dr Dre-like bass woofer and the music was going. And the engineer was like, “Wow, this place is amazing.” And I was like “Yeah, this place is on fucking fire. “ I though `Oh my god, that’s the title.” So I started singing with a Vocoder. It’s a nod to my wife. It was a longer piece but I thought it was a nice trippy way to end. And maybe open my shows.”

Harajuku Lovers fragrance
> From WWD.com:
![]()
Seldom has the term "doll-like" been so applicable as in the case of Gwen Stefani's September fragrance launch. That's when Stefani will introduce her new Harajuku Lovers collection. For the project, Stefani created dolls based on herself and her four real-life backup singers, Love, Angel, Music and Baby — and turned them into scent bottles.
"I didn't think this project would actually come to life," Stefani admitted to WWD. "The idea that Coty would let me do five different fragrances for Harajuku Lovers was a fantasy. [But] it really had to be five, because that's what the world is. Each girl has her own personality and sense of style. We're all saying something different with unique personalities."
Stefani has long been fascinated by the whimsical style of girls in Tokyo's Harajuku area — so much so that they have inspired her music, a streetwear apparel line, handbags and watches, to name a few.
That whimsy is reflected in the Harajuku Lovers bottles, which consist of two pieces: a glass base that holds the juice and hides the spray top, and a personalized doll that lifts off the base. Each doll is meticulously crafted, with a different mold and hand-applied detailing, down to the bows on Lil' Angel's dreadlocks. The outer box gives each doll's backstory.
The project itself came together quickly, said Stefani. "So much had been done already with creating these girls — dreaming up the entire world while I was working on the first solo album, living the fantasy on tour — the actual fragrance selection wasn't that hard," said Stefani. "I was just so inspired that it came together really fast. It was a little bit easier than when I was creating the L.A.M.B. fragrance. This time it wasn't just about me, so there was a little more freedom. And when you get to do five different things, you get to go in five different directions. You get a lot more space to choose."
The scents are all inspired by Stefani's views of her backup singers. Love is described as "sweet, caring, free-spirited and always off in her own little world." Lil' Angel is "constantly looking out for others," but is no saint. Music is "always looking to make someone laugh" and is "charismatic." Baby is "enticing in her frilly innocence." (And, naturally, G is the leader of the pack.)
Love, a sensuous floral concocted by Yves Cassar and Pascal Gaurin of International Flavors & Fragrances, has top notes of sparkling bergamot, pink pomelo, peach and bamboo leaf mist; a heart of watery peony, living hydroponic lace rose, jasmine sambac, nectarine blossom, creamy paperwhites and Egyptian jasmine, and a drydown of petally ylang, creamy vanilla orchid, sensual musk and blond wood.
Lil' Angel, a fruity floral by Givaudan's Christophe Raynaud, has top notes of raspberry, cranberry, blackberry and pineapple; a heart of pear blossom, candied violet and sugared rose, and a drydown of lollipop accord, hinoki wood and crystal amber.
Music, a delicate floral by Honorine Blanc of Firmenich, has top notes of clementine and sparkling pear; a heart of jasmine sambac, sweet pea and honeysuckle, and a drydown of vanilla, skin musk and sleek woods.
Baby, a powdery musk by Firmenich's Harry Fremont, has top notes of freesia, bergamot and white rose; a heart of orange flower, tiare flower and jasmine petals, and a drydown of white musk, soft woods, heliotrope, vanilla and violet.
G, a modern gourmand by Steve DeMarcado of Fragrance Resources, has top notes of crisp mandarin, fresh coconut and apple skin; a heart of jasmine sambac, soft freesia and magnolia vapor, and a drydown of coconut cream, white sandalwood and cottonwoods.
The scents will each be available in two sizes: $45 for 30 ml. and $25 for 10 ml. A coffret, which includes solid perfume versions of all five, will be on counter later this fall as a permanent addition to the collection, and will retail for $60. "They're value-priced to encourage multiple purchases," said Catherine Walsh, senior vice president of American Fragrances for Coty Prestige, adding, "While we're not the first to launch multiple scents at once, I do believe that we're one of the few to launch five extremely different scents at once."
That position swims against long-held conventional wisdom in the industry that it is difficult to merchandise more than one fragrance introduction at a time at point of sale. However, Walsh firmly maintains that the novelty of the five figurines will be so compelling that consumers will be charmed into buying more than one.
In the U.S., the Harajuku Lovers collection will be sold in some 2,200 department and specialty store doors, including Macy's, Nordstrom, Dillard's and Sephora. The lineup will also be sold in 17 international markets, including Japan, the U.K., France, Australia, Germany and China. Worldwide, the scents will be in about 10,000 doors, said Walsh.
In the U.S., certain retailers — including Macy's West — intend to install such fan-appealing features as 5-foot versions of the fragrance dolls and a photo booth where customers can take their pictures with the characters.
While Coty executives and Stefani declined to comment on sales projections, industry sources estimated that the collection would do upward of $30 million at retail globally in its first year on counter.
A print advertising campaign, shot by Craig McDean, will begin running in September fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazines. Stefani does not appear in the ads, purposely, said Walsh. "Harajuku Lovers is part of the world of Gwen Stefani — but it's a completely different franchise than Gwen's first fragrance, L," said Walsh. "We wanted to make that clear. Each one of these scents has its own personality."
Coty is also filming TV spots for the collection, although it is unlikely that they will be shown in the U.S., said Walsh.
Also key will be a comprehensive Web site, HLfragrance.com, intended to be an "interactive online experience," said Leslie Oglesby, global director of marketing. The site will offer information about the fragrances and their creation process, as well as a scrapbook section, a style discussion board and downloadable tools and avatars, said Oglesby. It is expected to go live on Sept. 1.
Now that her five fragrances are finished, Stefani is considering a September runway show, although her newest project — baby number two with husband Gavin Rossdale — may interfere. "I'm hoping to do a show, but it's right around when I'm due, so I'm not sure yet," she said.
Given the success of Stefani's first fragrance, she may end up heading into new beauty areas. "I would love to have a full L.A.M.B. beauty line one day," said Stefani. "It makes sense. I've always loved doing my hair and makeup and getting all dressed up. When I have a party or an event to go to, getting ready is just as much fun as actually going out."
But she certainly hasn't forgotten her first love, music. "Right now I'm in the studio with the guys, working on a new No Doubt album, while working on spring 2009 for L.A.M.B.," she said, adding that designing her apparel and accessories lines scratches a creative itch for her. "Music and fashion are both forms of creative and artistic expression for me. They're similar in that they're both never-ending collaborative art projects."

Gwen posts on NDC, Gwen appearing on Gavin's album, TSE DVD news
> Gwen posted on the No Doubt Community in the Band Room this week:
"Been thinking so much about you all lately as I am back in the studio again with the boys trying to write some new music. What an amazing few years it has been. So inspired going through the dance record phase of my life. Thank you so much for all your support! The tour was incredible. We ended up doing over 100 shows around the world and it was so rewarding and again inspiring. Thank you to everyone who came out to see it...memories for life! Great to be home with with all my boys. Feels crazy to be pregnant all over again!!!!! We have been spending every day up in the little studio in our house trying to write music. My favorite part so far is just seeing the guys everyday and hanging out. We have so much fun together. The songwriting part is a bit slow on my part...I think it has something to do with the baby in my belly but I'm sure it is all of the process and I really believe this could be the most inspired No Doubt record so far. Cant wait to see what happens. All my love G"
> From MTV.com:

Gwen Stefani Says No Doubt Are In The Studio 'Every Day,' Working On Album Expected In 2009. With new babies and side projects, the band still won't be quick to finish first album since 2001.
It's hard to believe, but by the time No Doubt finish work on their next album, they will have released only one CD during George W. Bush's two terms in office. Of course, in the interim, singer Gwen Stefani has kept busy with two solo albums and a son (with another kid on the way). Meanwhile, guitarist Tom Dumont has produced albums by his pal Matt Costa, bassist Tony Kanal has helped Stefani on her solo efforts, and drummer Adrian Young played drums on Bow Wow Wow's 2004 tour.
But, after several years of promises to get back to their day job, No Doubt are finally hunkering down in the studio to work on their first album of new material since 2001's Rock Steady.
Manager Jim Guerinot said the yet-untitled album, which is being produced by Mark "Spike" Stent (Björk, U2, Britney Spears), is penciled in for the first half of 2009. Between the babies and recording, No Doubt are not expected to do any touring in 2008, but, Guerinot promised, they plan to hit the road hard in 2009 for their first full-fledged band tour in nearly five years.
> Gwen will be appearing on Gavin's new solo album on a track called Some Days, according to Buzznet.com. "
Kingston is not on the record and the Mrs. sings some real nice stuff on “Some Days.”
The album is called Wanderlust and the first single Love Remains The Same is available in the US now, no word on when it will be released in Australia.
> News on the Sweet Escape tour DVD from Broadcast Buyer.tv:
Fujinon HD lenses captured a recent concert by pop star Gwen Stefani in Stockton, California for a DVD release of the artist’s live performances during her “Sweet Escape Tour.”
Los Angeles-based Oil Factory, Inc. produced the show and hired Burbank, California-based Big Vision Studios to supply the equipment used to shoot concert footage from the Stockton Arena. Fujinon lenses were also used to shoot a concert performance by Stefani in San Diego.
DP Steve Chivers, who worked with Oil Factory during the Gwen Stefani concert, said he appreciated the long focal length, coupled with a built-in image stabilizer, offered on the HA42x9.7BERD HD lens: “We got a great close ups of Gwen from about 400 feet or more away. Having such a long lens within a video configuration is pretty unique, and this lens delivered a beautiful shot.” Read the full article here.

Second L scent coming in July?
> Hollywood Bubble.com have a new paparazzi video of Gwen and her entourage heading out for dinner here. You can see that Gwen's brother Todd is filming them at times, possibly as part of a documentary. Gwen's neice Madeline is also there, wearing a white shirt and green Harajuku Lovers hoodie.
> I was in Myer the other day and asked (again) to get one of the L banners they had up, and the Coty rep I spoke to told me they couldn't give it away because they were "planning another focus in July and need it for then". It was mentioned in an article that they were planning four scents in total for Gwen's L perfume, this could mean the release of the second scent!

Gwen Stefani's Pregnant Celebrity Obsession
GWEN STEFANI has been closely monitoring fellow pregnant stars Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba and Halle Berry - so she can share the experience of other A-list mums-to-be. The singer has been snapping up celebrity magazines each week, to keep up to date with the latest baby gossip, and learn how a pregnant star is meant to behave. She says, "I've got caught up in the whole celebrity pregnancy thing."
> I saw a shirt in Glassons today that was quite similar to the LAMB Cool Microphone tee from Fall 2006.

V magazine, Tom posts on forum, ebay auctions
> Gwen's third and final V magazine cover can be viewed here. Thanks to Carly, here's a quick excerpt from the article:
TCR : So the boys in No Doubt weren’t pissed when you were out on the road for so long?
GS : They have been very supportive and cool about it. I mean, they’ve been my friends since I was 16. They knew I’d come back and do another No Doubt record, plus they were all busy as well. It’s not like they were just waiting around for me to come back. They actually went into the studio ahead of me to start working, so I don’t even know how much material is going to be waiting for me when I go in to start playing with them. We did a photo shoot together as soon as I got back from the tour. I was like, let’s get together and take a picture before my body gets destroyed by this next baby that I want to have. [Laughs]. It was also a nice way for us to get together and do something as a band. It was a little weird, but we looked really cute. Now we just have to make the record.
>
Tom posted on the No Doubt Community this week:
'Hi there everyone!
Here in So Cal the sun has started to hang out, which is nice because it shines into the little studio space where we've been working on some new music. This year is going to be so great, making music together again. I don't want to disclose too much too soon, but we have a heap of new ideas being explored. Tony, Adrian, and Gwen say hi, as well...
Talk soon,
Tom'

"She's a fashion designer, a pop star – and now, an avant-garde model? Yep, that's Gwen Stefani looking fierce on the March cover of V Magazine. While Mui Mui-clad Stefani has perfected her high-fashion moue for the cover, the singer really opens up in her interview, getting emotional when talk turns to her son, Kingston, 21 months. "I'm gonna start crying when I talk about this because it’s just so ... it's so intense," she tells the magazine. "I put him to sleep at night and, you know, I'll be rocking him to sleep and he'll be playing with my hair and ... it's just the most amazing feeling in the world." The singer, who is expecting her second child, also adds, "It's fun trying to get pregnant."

Gwen pregnant again?
> From The Sun.co.uk:
GWEN STEFANI has confirmed she is 13 weeks pregnant with bambino number two. The former NO DOUBT star and rocker husband GAVIN ROSSDALE are chuffed about having a brother or sister for their lad Kingston, one.
A source said: “They found out at California’s Cedars-Sinai hospital and couldn’t wait to share the news with everyone.”
Back in October Gwen revealed she was keen to have more kids. She said: “Obviously I’m in a race to have another one but I don’t want to do it while I’m out on tour.” And it looks like Gavin’s going to be run off his feet looking after her every whim now. She added: “He makes whatever food I crave.”

Tom posts on No Doubt Community
> Tom posted on the No Doubt Community today in the Band Room:
Hello 2008
Hey ND community!
Just a belated Happy Holidays to you all, and of course Happy New Year as well! There's a variety of news to report here, starting with of course the new ND album. We're eager to get together and make some great music this year. It's been awhile and absence makes the heart fonder, and we're feeling very very fond of making some No Doubt stew for ourselves and for you too.
What else? Oh yeah time keeps passing and I am stoked to be turning 40 this week (I'm the first in ND to do so- the "old man" of the group I suppose.
Plugs- Recently I produced the second album for my friend Matt Costa, it comes out this month on January 22.
Check out more info here and here. I'm working with my buddy Ted Matson on the music score for a Documentary Film entitled "The Providence Effect". More info on that in the coming months.
What else? Oh yeah Mieke and I are pregnant again, due in June, don't tell anyone- Shhhh:)
Okay that's it for the moment. Have fun out there!!!

'19-month-old Kingston, the son of rockers Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, plays with a cute little puppy while visiting friends at the “Balu House” out in UK’s Buckingshire countryside. Earlier in the day, Gwen, Gavin and Kingston enjoyed lunch in the English countryside village of Beaconsfield. The happy family popped into the local Pizza Express.'

Gwen Stefani Loves Living In UK
'Gwen Stefani loves living in the UK because of all the parks. The ‘Wind It Up’ spends a lot of time in her London home with 19-month-old son Kingston and husband Gavin Rossdale and enjoys going to the park. Gwen said, "We spend quite a bit of time in London. It’s really fun because of all the parks. We don’t get that in Los Angeles."
The 38-year-old star admits she doesn’t always enjoy the British weather. She said, "I love everything about London except for maybe the greyness sometimes."
The sexy blonde also confessed to being a "hair abuser." She added, "I’ve had a lot of bad hairstyles. Bad colors. I color my hair a lot. I’m a hair abuser. "My hair gets really dry and sometimes even falls out. I have ways of dealing with it but those are my secrets and I’m not giving them away."

> The world charts are in, and The Sweet Escape (single) came in at #4 for 2007! You can check out the full chart here (thanks Paulo). It's predicted that 4 In The Morning would have placed around 40-45, just missing out on the chart.
> Photos of Gwen and Gavin taking a walk in London earlier today can be found at Faded Youth.
> From Stylelist.com, Tim Gunn (judge on Project Runway) was interviewed and he had this to say about LAMB:
What celebrity lines do you like?
"Of course I love Bitten, but L.A.M.B. was one of the most talked about shows here in New York last September for all the right reasons. There's a fair amount of cynicism about these celebrity lines. I possess none of that cynicism. There are some where the designers are simply more involved than others, and in the case of Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwen Stefani they're very involved. They're nothing if not fashion icons, so they certainly know what they're talking about."

L fragrance, Gwen working with UB40?
> Thanks to Pablo, apparently Gwen will be working with UB40 on their upcoming album. I'm not sure where this article came from:
'Other guests include Mick Hucknall, Bitty McLean, Beverley Knight, Lemar and Katie Melua. "I'm adding Stevie Wonder and hopefully Gwen Stefani for the North American release. She's been to see us several times. The last time she was heavily pregnant. And while we were playing they put a spotlight on her all the way through the show. I thought that was really rude. Gawd bless her, she stayed for the whole of it."
'
> From JustJared:
'Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale join Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for a couples night out late Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Hollywood power coupled hopped into a limo together after watching the flashy welterweight Mayweather-Hatton boxing match, where American Floyd Mayweather knocked British-born Ricky Hatton out in the 10th round.
Also spotted ringside were Rocky actor Sylvester Stallone, actor Bruce Willis, golf champ Tiger Woods, retired pro boxer Sugar Ray Leonard, comedian Will Ferrell, and Welsh singer Tom Jones, who sang the national anthem.'

> From Sign On San Diego.com:
'Popular for her music, clothing line and perfume, singer Gwen Stefani is adding college scholarships to her repertoire.
The Gwen Stefani After-the-Fires Scholarship will be open to graduating high school seniors and college students who lost their homes and/or source of income in the October wildfires. Stefani donated $166,000 in proceeds from her Oct. 30 San Diego concert to the San Diego Foundation fire relief fund.
“When I heard about the devastation of the fires, at first I felt I should cancel my show out of respect,” Stefani said in a prepared statement. “But then it occurred to me there might be a more useful solution.”
How many students who would benefit from Stefani's fund has not been determined.

Gwen at Disneyland, Grammy nominations, new ND album
> The Grammy nominations are finally in! Gwen is nominated for best collaboration on The Sweet Escape with Akon. The awards take place February 10th, the nominees are:
Steppin' Out - Tony Bennett & Christina Aguilera
Beautiful Liar - Beyoncé & Shakira
Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On) - Robert Plant & Alison Krauss
The Sweet Escape - Gwen Stefani & Akon
Give It To Me - Timbaland Featuring Nelly Furtado & Justin Timberlake
> Two recent updates on how the band is progressing with the new album:
A fan (frenchfrytoast) spoke to
Tom: "I asked him about the new album and he said that at this point they just need to put everything together and that it should be out sometime next year - I think he may have said this time next year but don't quote me on that."
Another fan (Raddest Queen)
asked Eric Keyes if the new album would be ska influenced: "There was one really cool song that had a Ska feeling but the stuff I heard was in August? so all I can say is... I have no idea what the final CD will sound like, I don't even think they do and I must say that's one of the great things about this band, they do what feels right to them creatively and as long as they are honest with themselves and have fun something beautiful always shines through. Ska, Funk, Dance, Rock, R&B, Ballads or Punk it always seems to work and they pull it off better that anyone I can think of, actually Ween may be better at it, but No Doubt is more successful with it.
But, I could be bias, you may want to get a second opinion. Eric"

U Started It, Delta Goodrem on Gwen
> Thanks to stellarcandi, here's a great video of Gwen performing U Started It in San Diego.
> A fan SydneyGwen recently asked Delta Goodrem a question about Gwen while she was doing a live blog:
SydneyGwen: Greetings Delta, quick question, what do you think of Pop star Gwen Stefani, have you ever met her? Do you like her music? Take Care and cant wait for you to perform live!
Delta Goodrem: Hey there, I think Gwen is an awesome artist! i have met her once when we performed for Prince Charles, and i am a tall girl, but she is much taller than i am, which was great to meet such a tall glamorous talented lady! She is an inspiration to me and all young women around the world, all power to the girls! See you at the live shows!! peace out! D xx
> Gwen was featured on the front page of ninemsn.com.au today:
'Do you long for abs like Gwen Stefani, arms like Jennifer Aniston, or legs like Cameron Diaz? Perhaps all three? While lucky genes help, a buff physique can be achieved by anyone willing to put in the work. Here's the low-down on how Hollywood's hottest bodies, well — stay that way.
Gwen Stefani
If it's any consolation, Stefani admits her washboard abs come at a price. The 38-year-old singer worked out up until two weeks before the birth of son Kingston, and then five days a week for three months to lose her baby weight. "I cried during my last session [before the birth],'' Stefani told Elle magazine. ''All of my life I've had to work hard to stay in shape.''

Early Winter 5th single
> Thanks to Saturn2000, he said this about Gwen's show in Milan:
"Gwen said she has shot the video for Early Winter!! In a church or in a hotel..."
> From The Daily Orange, a recent interview with Matt McGinley, drummer for Gym Class Heroes. Click the link for the full interview.
The Daily Orange: You guys have been touring a lot. You just got off the one with Gwen Stefani (The Sweet Escape Tour in Australia and New Zealand). How was that?
Matt McGinley: That was awesome. Like, I remember me and Travis watching her show - I felt like a kid again, going to a show for the first time. That's how over the top her show is. I mean, we're starting to get to the level where we're getting more used to playing really big venues - such as tonight. You know, big halls or big arenas. So for us, when we look at an artist like Gwen doing these over-the-top things on stage but also having her music come across really well, so she's not sacrificing any of that, it's really a great learning experience for a young band like us to see something like that.

L fragrance, ND biography
> Gwen's L fragrance is now available from Myer, David Jones and Scents! The Perfume Connection will have it on Monday. I got mine from Myer, they wouldn't let me take a photo of the display but they had one big poster up, some small flyers and the jewellery box playing 'I want you all over me'.
I spoke to the Coty rep and she said there will be no freebies (bracelet, jewellery box, posters etc), and that Coty are very strict on giving away promotional items and basically told me there's no hope of getting anything when they're finished with it. She also said that she doesn't know of any plans to get the other items such as the perfume compact, for now it's just the 50ml, 100ml and she shower gel. There will also be no official launch with Myer, but she did say there'd be some girl wearing blonde wigs at Myer in Melbourne next week. Here's the card you can get for the testers:

Adrian & Magni
> Thanks to Courtney for transcribing this article, it was featured in today's MX:
Before & After
'She burst on to the music scene in 1992 as the No Doubt frontwoman in a blaze of platinum blonde hair, red lipstick, toned bare midriff and tartan. Coming from a family of seamstresses, it soon became obvious that fashion was just as important as music to the artist. Early on her hair was shoulder-length and wavy or blown out straight, with never a hint of her natural brunette. In 2004, Stefani went through a Jean Harlow phase, immersing herself in the 1930's film star's life to play her in the movie The Aviator. That year she released her own fashion range, L.A.M.B. ,pulling together an eclectic mix of ethnic influences. Her clothes and musical taste collided again when her four back-up dancers, the Harajuku Girls, inspired spin-off productions, including dolls and perfume. In 2006, leopard print maternity wear was the outfit of choice, and since son Kingston was born, her offstage look has been jeans and shirts with a funky cap. She works the red carpet in sleek shift dresses, smooth up-do's and, of course, the trademark red lippie. Never a dull moment with Gwen.'
> Magni from Rock Star Supernova has a couple of photos on his myspace with Adrian in them, he played on Dilana's solo album but the photos suggest he may have joined them for a few shows on tour. Click the thumbnail to view the rest in the gallery.

Rare ND photos
> Check out some awesome photos of the band from the 2004 Singles tour by Mark Sharkey Photography (ND pics are at the bottom).
> From The Globe & Mail (thanks Jenny):
Even storeys above Seventh Avenue in New York, Gwen Stefani is perched on a gold platform suspended over the Soho House Hotel's rooftop pool. Below her a pair of Olympic synchronized swimmers dive and twist to the sounds of the singer's Wind It Up single. It's the official press launch for Stefani's first scent, L, under her L.A.M.B. fashion brand. We caught up with her after the event to discuss fashion, fragrance and why she hated shooting her first television commercial.
L.A.M.B. has just surpassed $100-million in sales and is the fastest-growing young designer brand. What inspired you to become a designer?
To be honest, I just wanted to be smart and have something creative to do later in life. I knew it was going to be hard to transition out of music one day when I hear fans say, 'We've had enough of that.' I thought fashion might be something I could be good at when I have a family. Designing is something I've always done - pretty much designing all my costumes and my own clothes. My mom used to make all my clothes growing up so it just seemed natural. But I can't believe it's gotten to this point. I never dreamed it would get this big.
What's the secret to balancing a career in music and fashion?
Trust me, my schedule is insane. But there is no trick. I feel it's almost out of my control, out of my hands. I had to leave my son to come here and I was so upset. It's the first time I've left him. I just wish I had more time. I love designing and I want to do it the rest of my life, but I also really love doing music. That's what I feel is the reason I'm here on this planet for. Music.
How involved are you in creating your image?
I'm a girl that likes to get into the makeup chair and loves the whole process of getting ready. We spend hours conference calling about what I am going to wear and how I will look. It's so stupid, but I love talking about this stuff. It's like playing house, but I'm still doing it. I have a whole creative team and we talk about "The Look" and what I'm going to wear. I've always been the girl who gets dressed up and jumps in the mosh pit. I've always had the contradiction of the masculine and the feminine, hard and soft. But I always come back to the same themes: the red lips, the blond hair, the Rasta influence from the Islands, the black and white stripes. It's just who I am.
Why launch a fragrance?
For years, I've had people approach me to do different campaigns for different things. But I write music and sing. That's what I love to do. To do a celebrity fragrance wasn't that exciting for me at first. But now that L.A.M.B. is four years old, the opportunity to do a fragrance as a designer seemed like such a milestone. The fragrance somehow made the success of L.A.M.B. more real.
Tell us about shooting the TV commercial.
It was hell on earth. All in the water. You can imagine the torture of doing synchronized swimming and diving in very cold water from 9 in the morning until 7 at night. My God, was I ever crabby.
So what's the best party you've ever attended?
I love my dad's Fourth of July birthday party in the backyard. I love having the whole barbecue thing. But there's nothing wrong with going to the Vanity Fair party. It has been a long, amazing 15 minutes that I've had on this incredible journey. I've had so many lucky moments.

> From Teen Vogue.com:
London had a Kate Moss for TopShop unveiling, and Paris had the very private showing of The Row, by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. But last night, some very lucky New Yorkers got L.A.M.B., the clothing range that stars our favorite rock idol, Gwen Stefani.
GWEN, YOU HAVE THE NICEST TENT IN FASHION WEEK!
I know, right? This is such a change from my first time showing?we did it at Roseland Ballroom, with the bugs and the rats! I was so excited to show there because it's where I've had some of my concerts, but backstage... it was really dirty.
THAT'S ROUGH. BUT AT LEAST YOU HAD LILY COLE IN THAT SHOW
Oh my gosh, I am obsessed with that model. We had a lot of great models in the first LAMB show but Lily was a creature unlike any other. She looked like the most beautiful thing from space.
I HEARD YOU SEWED YOUR OWN COSTUME FOR A SCHOOL PLAY?
Oh, I've been making my own clothes for as long as I can remember. So many of the women in my family sewed, my mom would always ask me to help out, and around Junior High, I started doing things by myself. That's why when it came time to do a clothing line, I was ready... But when I was in high school, I was going to sing "I have confidence" from The Sound of Music in our school talent show. And I made myself a kind of jumper, in tweed, and I still have it! You know, now that I think about it, that gives me an idea... you might be onto something with that jumper!
REVIVE IT!
Yeah, but it was a little bit frumpy. If we brought it back, we'd have to do something new to it, maybe tighten it... but that's an early example of how I would always make clothes based on whatever music I was performing... This current collection is really ska influenced because of my upcoming album and also because of my past. When I first started out, everything I did was ska, the music and the clothes, in fact one of the songs on the runway tonight is also one of the first songs I ever performed in front of an audience.
THAT'S AWESOME. SO IS THE LAMB LINE BASED ON PIECES FROM YOUR OWN CLOSET, LIKE KATE MOSS FOR TOPSHOP?
Well, first of all, I have an amazing closet. It is incredible. You would not BELIEVE how great my closet is.
YEAH, I WOULD.
It's really amazing. I definitely take pieces I've worn onstage and figure out how to make them into real clothes that girls can wear in every day life... but I think LAMB is based as much on what's in my closet as what ISN'T in my closet! You know, when you say, "But all I want to wear is this," and it's something that you have in your mind, but you don't actually have it! I hate that feeling. I want to just eliminate it.

L perfume in Australia, ROS voted best cover of 2000
> Thanks to Ali, she asked at a perfume store in Perth called Scents about them receiving Gwen's L perfume and they said they've ordered it and expect it to arrive in around two weeks. If anyone else has heard about stores near them getting it or wants to see what they can find out, please post it on the tagboard!
> Now That You Got It promo on ebay (thanks to misslambiepants).
> I found some more candids from Gwen's stay in Australia - a couple from Lleyton Hewitt's house and quite a few from the Melbourne airport. If you look closely at the Melbourne ones, the green jacket Kingston is wearing is LAMB.
> Thanks to Sophie, ninemsn have named what they think is the top 25 album covers of the past 25 years, and for the year 2000 they chose Return Of Saturn. Details here.
